Gürkan Doğan completed his primary, junior and secondary education at the T.E.D. Ankara College. He graduated from Hacettepe University, Department of Linguistics in 1982. In 1985, he continued his Post-Graduate studies within the same Department and worked as research assistant while completing his M.A. degree. In 1992, he received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Manchester. His thesis topic was entitled, “The Pragmatics of Indeterminacy of Meaning”. After graduation, he went back to Hacettepe University to teach as Assistant Professor. In 1996 his title was changed to Associate Professor. The Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Arts and Science, invited Gürkan Doğan as a scholar to teach for the Department of Turkish Language and Literature in 1997. To date, he has worked as the Head of the Turkish Language and Literature Department, the Dean of the Faculty of Education and has taken on the responsibilities of being the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs. In 2003 his title was changed to Professor. As a prolific writer, he has written many articles and papers for conferences and journals dealing with the subject of discourse and poetic language used by writers. He has also made a number of presentations on “leadership and linguistic awareness” since 2004 related to the relationship between leadership and language skills. As author and poet, Gürkan Doğan’s third book of poems called, “Mavi” (2000) was published by the Eastern Mediterranean University. This book of poetry was partly a compilation from some of his previous works entitled, “Küçük Şeyler” (1995) and “Ortancalar” (1996) and also some of his most recent poems.
